SIMPLE TRAVEL SAVING TIPS (PART ONE POINT FIVE – THE DESTINATION VIA LAND OR SEA)

So after the first post where I suggested flying to and from different cities or countries in order to save costs and see more, I didn’t actually explain how to do this.

For example this could be flying from London to Riga, Latvia but to save yourself some money you fly back to London from Helsinki, Finland. So how do you do this? when you have to travel across land and ocean?!IMG_9013

THE DESTINATION VIA LAND OR SEA

(i) Still check in with your best mate SKYSCANNER!
Depending on your travel plans it could work out cheaper to fly. Many flights between countries such as Poland <-> Norway can be very low cost and sometimes under £10!!!

But if you looking to take the more scenic route and see more of a country here are the ways I try to cut costs!

(ii) Again, use comparison sites
Using sites such as GoEuro will give you the cheapest travel option for Buses, Trains and Flights, while Direct Ferries will give you the cheapest ocean travel.

I always check the actual travel lines website as well as sometimes this can be cheaper, not all bus companies are included on comparison sites and many comparison websites don’t offer Student or Youth discounts.

IMG_0454One way examples
Flixbus – Bratislava to Vienna = £4.99
LuxExpress – Tallinn, Estonia to Riga, Latvia = £9.99
Scandinavian Rail  – Stockholm to Gothenburg = £17
Tallink – Ferry from Helsinki, Finland to Tallinn, Estonia = £17

(iii) the YOUTH and STUDENT Option
Not applicable to those over 25/26 or people who aren’t students. But for those who this applies to, make use of this option when offered as this could save you travel costs.

(iiii) Travel overnight
This can help you save you money on a nights accommodation and there are occasions where overnight travel can work out cheaper than travelling throughout the day.
I usually opt for the overnight option on longer journeys as this gives you more time to explore as you are not stuck travelling during the day!

NEXT UP WILL ACTUALLY BE ACCOMMODATION!

SIMPLE TRAVEL SAVING TIPS (PART ONE – THE DESTINATION)

IMG_9098
Travel has quickly grown to become one of my favourite passions. Nothing makes me more happy then being able to visit new countries, explore new cultures and raid the supermarkets of local snacks and chocolate especially when I have got the most for my money.

But I don’t think many people realise that there are ways you can travel for cheaper and still see the world without breaking the bank.

This blog series is going to cover my tips on how you can also save on flights, accommodation, getting around and more! So that you are able to put that saved money towards future travels.

                                                     PART ONE – THE DESTINATION

(i) Travel anywhere at anytime.
Be open to countries you haven’t considered visiting. Even consider visiting lesser known cities as this can help keep costs down, give you a better experience of local culture and could turn out to be one of your favourite places! Also willing to go at anytime of the year could also save you.

(ii) SKYSCANNER is probably my best friend.
Using comparison websites like Skyscanner and Travel Republic help by listing the cheapest options possible for your desired destination from any departure airport in your country.

My preferred site is Skyscanner as it is very easy to use and USUALLY has the cheapest flights. Skyscanner include all potential destinations from your chosen departure and lists them from low to high cost.
They also offer direct and non-direct flights which can also help you save, if you don’t mind longer travel times. JUST REMEMBER TO DELETE THOSE COOKIES BEFORE BOOKING!!!!IMG_0414
(iii)
 One way tickets > Returns
Choosing to book one way tickets to/from different cities in a specific country (or even a another country) can also help keep costs down, while giving you the opportunity to explore further.
Also flying to/from different cities in your home country can help keep costs down.
THIS ALSO WORKS WITH FLIGHTS OUTSIDE THE EU

My Example – August 2017
Bristol –> Warsaw (£20 – RYANAIR)
Warsaw –> Oslo Torp (£8.99 – RYANAIR)
Copenhagen –> London Stansted (£17.99 – RYANAIR)
TOTAL 3 FLIGHTS = £46.98 !!!

My Example – Baltic Getaway January 2018
London Gatwick -> Tallinn, Estonia (£33.77 – EASYJET)
Riga, Latvia -> London Luton (£16.99 – WIZZ AIR)
TOTAL 2 FLIGHTS= £50.76 !!!

(iiii) Hold Luggage? Whats that?
Learn to pack light. Making use of an airlines cabin bag policy can help you save further. I can fit 7 nights worth of clothing in this rucksack which is well within budget airlines baggage policies.IMG_9573

Example of Clothing packed in this rucksack
2 Shirts, 7-10 T-shirts, 1 Spare pair of trainers or shoes, 1x Jeans, 1x Shorts, 7-10 Boxers, 7-10 Socks and 1 Towel. Room in front pocket for Charging cables and medication (This list doesn’t include the clothes I was wearing which included – T-shirt, Shorts, Trainers, Hoodie and Raincoat)

PACKING CHEAT’S
ROLL UP T-SHIRTS AND UNDERWEAR
PUT SOCKS IN SPARE TRAINERS
ATTACH HEAD WEAR TO RUCKSACK
PUT COAT OR HOODIE THROUGH BACK STRAPS

I think those are all the ways I try to save when flying to my destinations

My Summer School Adventure

Haven’t post in ages and was waiting for my marks before posting cause I didn’t jinx myself but I smashed it, got a B and got to explore more of the world, so here goes!
39519382_209870679880465_2962072256370442240_nI spent July studying Sports Marketing and Sponsorship at Aarhus University’s summer school in Denmark. I have never studied in another country before, so I  didn’t know what to expect but this adventure involved travel and spending the best part of a month living and exploring another country, which excited me anyway.

I spent my first evening down the harbour with newly acquainted friends I met on my flight (which I spent the best part of the coming weeks with). We watched Denmark sadly lose on Penalties to Croatia in the world cup. I am not a massive football fan myself but the atmosphere was amazing and was great to see so many Danes coming together for the event.

The next day I moved into my student accommodation which was 2 bedroom flat located on the harbour by the newly built public bath and a 10 minute bike ride to the beach, which was an awesome location! I also got to do my first shop, which for those who know me was quite an exciting time as I am a big fan of a country’s traditional foods, snacks and drinks (I ATE SO MANY PASTRIES).
39748559_1024580217703024_3768119394559852544_n.jpgThen began my studying. Vass was one of the best lecturer’s I have met. He made the content so engaging and his passion for the subject was transferred to you, making you want to learn more.  I enjoyed the course so much, I really wish that is was longer!

The lecture times also gave you time to explore the city and further, which was a big yes from me! I channelled my inner dane on various occasions which included a 45km bike ride across the coast to explore more of Denmark. I also got the chance to head back to Sweden and check out Germany for the first time!
39585331_305234146917925_5586542065887477760_nThe overall experience of studying in Aarhus has filled with me a hunger to learn more about the sports business as well as the aspiration to 100% do my masters abroad.
I would recommend studying abroad at Summer School to anyone, especially Aarhus – now one of my favourite places, I hope I get to come back soon!

Upskilling

He’s only gone and completed second year!

So I have just completed the second year of my (BA) Hons Music Business course.

I am really happy with the grades I have received! I never expected to get half of the results that I did!

Overall this year was pretty insightful in all aspects (life, career and the world) which has me a better idea of the career path I wish to take and where I want to be.

THE TASK
One of the goals I have set myself over summer break is to start designing and creating my content. One of the ambitions I have is to work within the marketing department, creating content for a brand such as an ice hockey team.

So, with this in mind I have set myself the task to learn some of adobe’s creative programmes (Photoshop // Illustrator // Premier Pro).

THE PROGRESS SO FAR
So far using the few hours I spent learning Photoshop last week (with the help of Skillshare) as well as my own exploring the programme has allowed me to produce these pieces below.

Piece 1 is a GAME NIGHT poster (LEFT)
Piece 2 is a count down to the next season. It features the “30 days to go” behind the player, while the player races towards next season (RIGHT)

(DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE PHOTOS, LOGOS OR FONTS USED IN THESE DESIGNS. I HAVE USED THEM ONLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF MY EDUCATION)

THE REASONS WHY
Learning these pieces of software will give me skills needed to create engaging content that could be used on social media channels as well as websites // other promotional materials. Content like this will encourage conversation and engagement with current and potential audiences.

And if you didn’t guess yet…yes, I am a fan of the Cardiff Devils.
More progress of my learning to follow as and when!
